Roanoke Valley Garden Club
The schedule is up on the GCV website for the Rose Show in Norfolk
the first week of October. Check it out! Our Inter-Club is an abstract
design based on a fountain in the garden. Descriptions of
arrangement classes and pictures of the garden spots in show are
featured in the schedule. Look over the individual classes and
consider entering an arrangement.

Rose Show
Wednesday, October 5th - Ooctober 6th
Well, we are back and had a very nice trip to Norfolk. Alison Conte, Nancy
Peake, and I enjoyed seeing the show and, of course, the good restaurants
where we ate. Unfortunately, Cyndi was ill and couldn't join us.
Sadly, I must report that we didn't win any colored ribbon for our InterClub
arrangement. It was quite striking, many came to view and take photos.
However, it was deemed NOT ABSTRACT and, therefore, did not meet the
schedule. The good outcome was that the Judge graciously spent time with me
after the award ceremony to explain abstract. It was a mini arranging class
for me and the 10 or so women who gathered around. She explained that while
ours was beautiful and we had such clever mechanics, it was too realistic. It
looked like a fountain and abstract should be distorted from reality. We did
have the bold color, but our flowers were too traditionally placed. It should be
simplistic (small amount of floral) and used untraditionally (flowers upside
down). One of these days, sooner than later I hope, I will conquer abstract.
Congratulations go to Mill Mountain. Christine Bradshaw did their InterClub,
an Echo design, and it won first place blue in their division and Quad Blue for
best InterClub in show. Also, Matilda Bradshaw won first place blue in
Individual for designer's choice and won best Individual in show. We're proud
of them and for keeping the silver here in the Valley!
I've attached pictures of our arrangement and the winner, plus Mill Mtn's
and Matilda's. Thank you to Alison and Nancy for their excellent help, and to
the committee for our basket of treats.
