Roanoke Valley Garden Club
"All Aboard with GCV"
May 10 - May 12, 2011
Let us pray -
Maker of all things, Creator of heaven and earth, we thank you for the
wonder and beauty of nature. May we be ever vigilant and responsible
with the world that you have given us, mindful not only that we are
your stewards, but also that your creation is a gift for all generations.
May we never be so busy that we fail to appreciate the simple things of
beuaty in our midst: the grandeur of the mountains, especially the Blue
Ridge Mountains in which we are now embraced, our precious water in
all its manifestations, a dogwood tree, or a single, perfect flower. We
ask your special blessings on all those who are now afflicted with
destructive floods. Be with us in our work throughout the year and may
we always show others that we care.
Bless this food to the nourishment of our bodies and us to Thy service.
Amen.
After the awards, Betty Lesko lead us in prayer

Plant this, Not That -
What a treat to be in room filled with talented and garden club loving women.
Specifically between two very involved GCV women. Lucy encouraged me to
visit the Kent Valentine House. Helen encouraged conversation and wine to flow
throughout the evening. I learned a little bit of GCV history from a previous GCV
president. I learned about a beautiful diamond pin that is passed down from
president to president. When she didn't wear it proudly on the outside she would
actually pin the pin to the inside of her running shorts while on her daily jog.
Helen lives on an island on the Northern Neck and enjoys walking her dog on her
daily two mile walk, reading and gardening. She has many raised beds and
grows her lilies in wiskey barrels - around forty of them!
Helen said she enjoys giving her lilies away a stem at a time displayed in wine
bottles.
Wine bottles and Whiskey barrels - Hmmm, good times with friends and flowers!
